Unilever Sri Lanka has recently launched a new 2.33 MW solar power project at its Horana plant with a total investment of €1.3 million.
Unilever Sri Lanka said the investment will meet 30-35% of its Horana plant's energy needs and reduce carbon emissions by 2,090 metric tons per year, equivalent to planting more than 48,000 trees. The company expects to increase its total solar capacity to 4 megawatts this year, with a goal of 70 percent renewable energy being carbon neutral by 2050.
Unilever Sri Lanka is a manufacturer and distributor of fast-moving consumer goods with 30 brands including food, beverages, cleaners and personal care products.
